Jon Bogdanove’s write-up is likely to be more brief than some of the others, but for a rather notable reason – he’s the only long-running Triangle Era Superman penciller who stayed on one title for the entire length of his run. Jon launched SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL with Issue 1 in 1991 and he was the regular penciller up until Issue 85.

That’s a seven and a half year run on a single book, a feat unmatched by any of his peers.

I love the whole Triangle crew but in the last decade or so, I’ve found a much bigger appreciation for Bogdanove’s art.
He can do big cartoony action, regular tender moments of great humanity, all of it!
If he had been doing the same type of artwork in an Image or Marvel book back then (with their specific type of coloring and printing) he would’ve been way more remembered.

In fact, the Triangle Era artists feel underrated because of the era in which they worked.

I’m Adam Mallinger

I’m a lifelong Superman fan who got to live his dream in 2020 when I was hired on the CW show SUPERMAN & LOIS as Writers’ Assistant. In my second season there, I was promoted to Staff Writer and I remained on staff through seasons 2 and 3. During my time there I wrote one episode in each of the four seasons and co-wrote the SUPERMAN & LOIS comic.

I also used to blog and tweet under the name The Bitter Script Reader. I also wrote the book MICHAEL F-ING BAY: THE UNHERALDED GENIUS IN MICHAEL BAY’S FILMS under that name.

I started this blog as a tribute to my favorite era of Superman, the Post-Crisis incarnation also often referred to as “The Triangle Era.”
